Analyst Mat Piscatella says Xbox ports are its only way to win

Xbox maintains third position among console manufacturers while PlayStation and Nintendo lead market share. The company shifts strategy by releasing former exclusive titles across competitor platforms rather than attempting to gain ground through hardware sales. Industry analyst Mat Piscatella indicates this approach will expand as Xbox seeks revenue from established player bases on rival systems.

Forza Horizon 5 achieved remarkable success on PlayStation 5, becoming the platform's top-selling game for 2025. This performance demonstrates the financial benefits of cross-platform releases for Xbox. Piscatella explains that consumers remain loyal to their chosen ecosystems and friend networks, making platform switching unlikely regardless of exclusive content.

Live service games consume approximately half of all gaming time among the ten most popular titles. Publishers must reach audiences where they already play rather than attempting to relocate them. Xbox executives recognize this reality and plan additional multi-platform releases across Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 systems.
