Anwar tells MOHE to shove BM, history into all schools

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed higher education officials to coordinate with basic education authorities on strengthening Malay language and history instruction across all types of schools. The mandate accompanies proposed changes to the General Studies curriculum presented by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir. Officials developed recommendations after consulting scholars, universities, accreditation bodies, and government departments about modernizing patriotic education programs.

The revised framework will extend beyond public and private colleges to cover vocational training centers nationwide. Cabinet members will review proposals aimed at cultivating knowledgeable citizens with a strong national identity. Stakeholders from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, the Defence Ministry, and the Anti-Corruption Commission contributed their expertise during policy development. Anwar announced the initiative through social media posts, emphasizing fresh approaches to building civic values among students.
