APC Crowns Tinubu for Final Term Showdown

Nigeria's All Progressives Congress party chose Bola Tinubu for another presidential term on Thursday. The ruling party made this decision at a meeting in Abuja, the country's capital city. Tinubu defeated two main opponents in February 2023 after they claimed he had cheated during voting. The 73-year-old president said he won the election fairly without any fraud. Nigerian leaders can serve two terms, lasting four years each.

Party chairman Abdullahi Ganduje announced Tinubu as their only candidate for the 2027 elections. The announcement happened on the second anniversary of Tinubu becoming president. Cabinet ministers talked about their successes since taking government positions. The APC wants Tinubu to continue economic changes that removed fuel subsidies and changed money exchange rules. Foreign investors and credit rating companies praised these policy reforms.

Critics say Tinubu's changes created the worst living cost problems in recent years. Opposition parties remain divided and weak after several leaders joined the ruling party. Tinubu expects more politicians to switch sides before the next election campaign begins. The president faces criticism for failing to stop violence and terrorist attacks across Nigeria. Security problems persist despite the government's promises to fix ongoing conflicts.
