Apple clarified that the marks were not scratches but material transfer from worn MagSafe chargers in Apple Stores.
The company confirmed that the residue could be wiped off, leaving the phone's glass undamaged. This issue had also affected older iPhone models, but the iPhone 17's matte texture made the marks more noticeable.
To address this, Apple introduced new MagSafe stands featuring a silicone ring to minimize direct contact with the phone. Store employees have also been instructed to clean demo units more frequently.
