Armenia and Russia triumph as Goa hosts World IPCA Chess Championship 2025

Goa hosted the 24th World IPCA Individual Chess Championship 2025 for players with disabilities. The Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities partnered with the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities and tournament organizers to stage the event. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presented gold, silver, and bronze medals to winners across Men's, Women's, and Wheelchair divisions. Armenia topped the men's competition ahead of Poland and Tajikistan, while Russia led the women's field with Poland second and India third.

More than 100 elite competitors from over 20 nations participated in the championship. The tournament featured players from Russia, Israel, Poland, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Germany, South Africa, UAE, and Sri Lanka among others. International masters and FIDE-rated players competed alongside India's emerging talents like CM Samarth Rao and FM Venkata Krishna Karthick. The Purple Festival celebrated abilities of persons with disabilities across multiple fields, with organizers distributing a total prize fund worth USD 15,000.
