ASUS gives the Radeon RX 9070 XT an Onimusha makeover

ASUS has made a limited-run TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT for Onimusha: Way of the Sword fans, but the hardware is still the regular OC model. The main draw is a blue-and-gold look based on the Oni Gauntlet, along with a code for the standard game.

Under the fancy shell, AMD's RDNA 4 chip does the work. It has 4,096 stream processors, 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and a 256-bit bus. Memory runs at 20 Gbps, which puts it in line with the usual TUF RX 9070 XT setup.

Clock speeds get a small factory bump when OC mode is active. The boost can reach 3,080 MHz, while gaming clocks can hit 2,540 MHz. With the stock profile, those figures drop to 3,060 MHz and 2,520 MHz. Nothing here points to a new performance tier.

On the back, gamers get one HDMI 2.1b port and a trio of DisplayPort 2.1a outputs. That gives the card room to run four screens. It also uses a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, which fits its high-end desktop roots.

But this thing needs space. The card measures 330 × 140 × 62.5 mm and takes up 3.125 slots. A cramped case could be a real pain, mainly for builds with gear close to the GPU.

Power is another detail worth a check. ASUS advises an 850W PSU, and the board needs three separate 8-pin power plugs. The custom paint job does not make those needs any less real.

As for the look, the shroud and rear plate use the same game-inspired color scheme. Fans who want a themed PC may like that. Anyone after extra frames, though, has no clear reason to expect a gain over the usual TUF OC card.

Pricing remains a mystery. No MSRP has been shared, and ASUS has not set out which regions will get stock or when sales will start. It plans to tie the release to the game, but the launch details are not clear enough to pin down.

There is a catch with the free game code as well. Buyers still need to check whether it works in their region. And until retail prices and stock levels are clear, the value of this special edition is hard to judge.

For collectors, the design may be the main appeal. For anyone just after an RX 9070 XT, the standard TUF model has much the same core specs, with none of the theme-based appeal factored into the deal.
