ASUS Vivobook S14 and S16 pack Snapdragon X and 30-hour battery claims

ASUS has rolled out nine Vivobook S14 and S16 laptop options in Japan, with Snapdragon X chips and battery life claims of up to 30 hours. The lineup puts OLED screens and AI tools ahead of gaming power, with two sizes for work on the go.

Both machines run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon X X1-26-101, which packs eight cores and eight threads. Graphics come from the built-in Adreno GPU, while a Hexagon NPU handles AI tasks at a rated 45 TOPS. The aim here is daily work and Copilot+ PC features, not heavy gaming.

Under the hood, the GPU and AI unit draw from the same system RAM. That could matter for larger apps or local AI work, where memory can get tight. Buyers can pick 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X, though the chips are fixed to the board. No easy RAM swap later.

Screen size is the main split. The S5608 has a 16-inch OLED panel and weighs 1.6 kg. Its smaller S5408 sibling has a 14-inch display and comes in at 1.28 kg. Both use a 16:10 WUXGA format, with sharp contrast rather than a focus on high refresh rates.

Color specs look decent on paper. ASUS rates the OLED panels at full DCI-P3 coverage and a contrast figure of 1,000,000:1. That should appeal to buyers who care about rich colors, though the figures are still factory claims.

Storage runs from 256GB through 512GB across the Japanese range. The metal body also gets a durability claim, with ASUS citing MIL-STD-810H testing. That is useful context, but it does not make the laptops immune to damage.

Ports are fairly practical. USB-C handles video and charging, while a pair of USB-A sockets covers older gear. HDMI and a headset port round things out. The bundled 68W charger can fill the battery to 60% in roughly 49 minutes, according to ASUS.

For the battery itself, the 30-hour figure is a best-case rating. Actual run time will depend on screen use, apps, and the exact model. A busy day with demanding software may give a very different result.

Pricing in Japan starts at ¥199,800 for the S16 and can rise to ¥229,800. That works out to roughly $1,265 through $1,455 at the stated exchange rate. The smaller S14 begins at ¥159,800, or about $1,013, and reaches the same ¥229,800 ceiling.

Those dollar amounts are just currency estimates, not confirmed American price tags. The S16 reaches Japanese stores first, with the S14 set to follow. For buyers comparing the two, screen size, weight, fixed RAM, and price are the key differences.
