BAC Splashes D28M on Wards as Taxpayers Pick Up the Tab

The Brikama Area Council, or BAC for short, gave out a big sum of money on Thursday. They handed over 28 million dalasi to help the 28 different wards in the West Coast Region. This money will allow them to do important projects to improve the lives of everyone living there.

Mr. Yankuba Darboe, who is in charge of the BAC, explained why they decided to give this money. He said that more and more people are moving to the area, which makes it hard to keep things running smoothly. They need help dealing with trash, keeping things clean, and making sure everyone has enough water.

The BAC wants to ensure that every ward gets a fair share of the money it collects. This year, it increased the amount each ward receives from 500,000 dalasi to 1 million dalasi. That's a lot more money to spend on the things each area needs the most.

Last year, the money from the BAC helped 22 communities get clean drinking water by digging new boreholes. Three other places were also hooked up to the country's main power lines for electricity. This shows how the funds can really improve people's lives.

Mr. Darboe made sure to point out that this money wasn't a gift from someone else. It comes straight from the taxes paid by the hard-working people living in the West Coast Region. He wants everyone to remember that paying their taxes and fees helps their communities grow stronger.

The BAC trusts the ward development committees to spend the money wisely. They should choose projects that will make the biggest difference, like improving health care, providing clean water, creating jobs, and supporting women. Building better roads and helping hungry families are also important goals.

Mr. Darboe thanked everyone in the West Coast Region for paying their rates, licenses, and taxes on time. Their cooperation and support allow the BAC to continue helping communities thrive and succeed.
