Balaka Man Murdered Over Maize Theft

Balaka police officers caught two men who killed Steven Holoko during a maize theft incident last month. Geoffrey Daudi Gangire, aged 45, and Daudi Lule, aged 35, face murder charges after beating the 58-year-old man to death. Holoko died on May 6 when villagers found him taking corn from someone's garden at Sikelo Village. Inspector Gladson M'bumpha told reporters that detectives spent weeks tracking down the killers. Officers arrested both suspects on Thursday, May 22, after completing their investigation.

Gangire lives at Chipatala Village near where the deadly attack happened. Lule comes from Petekula Village under Traditional Authority Kainga, located across district lines. The victim had entered private farmland and started harvesting maize without permission from the owner. Community members discovered Holoko stealing crops and called other villagers to help stop him. Court officials will hear the murder case against both men during upcoming legal proceedings.
