Airport security cameras caught a government adviser carrying a loaded gun magazine through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last Sunday. Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain serves as the Local Government and Rural Development Adviser for the interim government. Security staff found the magazine with one bullet inside his travel bag during routine screening. The adviser quickly gave the weapon part to his personal security officer. A UK-based journalist shared the surveillance footage online and it spread like wildfire across social media.
Airport rules strictly ban all firearms and ammunition from entering the premises. Licensed gun owners cannot bring weapons or bullets into the building under any circumstances. Several high-profile people faced arrest for similar violations over the past few years. Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Redwan Ahmed went to jail for carrying bullets into the airport back in 2019. A doctor couple also faced charges for bringing their licensed pistol and ammunition through security in 2021.
