Bangladesh inflation falls below 9 percent for first time since March 2023

Bangladesh saw prices rise slower last month after nearly three years of pain for shoppers. Money experts released new numbers showing costs went up just 8.48 percent during June. This marks the first time price jumps stayed under 9 percent since early 2023. Families had watched their grocery bills and living costs climb month after month. The country last saw similar price levels back during summer 2022.

Food costs dropped the most as farmers brought fresh crops to market. Grocery price increases fell from 8.59 percent down to 7.39 percent between May and June. Other items like clothes and services stayed about the same at 9.37 percent increases. Weather helped farmers grow more rice and vegetables this season. Transportation costs also went down as fuel prices stabilized.

Government leaders wanted to keep price jumps around 6.5 percent all year long. The actual average came out much higher at over 10 percent for twelve months. Workers saw their pay go up only 8.18 percent during the same time. This means most people still cannot buy as much as before. Families continue struggling to afford basic needs like food and housing.

Economic growth picked up speed during the latest three months of measurement. The country produced 4.86 percent more goods and services compared to last year. Earlier quarters showed much slower growth rates around 2 percent and 4.5 percent. Experts warn that one good month does not fix longer problems. Price pressures still hurt regular families across the nation.
