Bangladesh Pay Chief Khan promises salary fix early

National Pay Commission Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan announced accelerated completion of government salary reforms during discussions with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. Khan presented the commission's progress at State Guest House Jamuna, emphasizing their commitment to deliver results before the allocated six-month deadline. The former finance secretary highlighted significant gaps between salary growth and economic indicators over the past decade.

The commission develops comprehensive compensation frameworks for government employees across multiple sectors. Their work addresses specialized positions, allowance calculations, inflation adjustments, and pension structures. Khan outlined plans to rationalize benefits while eliminating inconsistencies in current pay grades.

Professor Yunus stressed the importance of health insurance coverage for public servants. He noted that medical emergencies often devastate families despite salary increases. The chief adviser referenced successful insurance models from neighboring countries as potential frameworks for Bangladesh.

This marks the first comprehensive salary review in ten years. The commission evaluates compensation across government departments, autonomous organizations, state banks, and approved universities. Financial Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed and other senior officials attended the meeting.
