Bangladesh scrambles to DC as Trump and USTR bait tariff pact

America has called Bangladesh back to the table for another round of trade talks. The United States Trade Representative wants to hammer out a deal about taxes on goods between the two countries. These meetings will happen from July 9th through 11th in Washington DC. Bangladesh landed a spot among the first nations invited back after President Trump sent letters to 14 world leaders on July 7th. The move shows America wants to fast-track these important business discussions.

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin will fly to Washington DC to lead the Bangladesh team face-to-face. National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman will connect from Dhaka through video calls during the sessions. Top government workers have already packed their bags and headed to the American capital city. The Commerce Secretary and an Additional Commerce Secretary are ready to dive into the nitty-gritty details. Bangladesh officials believe they can pick up where they left off from their successful first meeting.

The South Asian nation feels good about what happened during their initial talks on June 27th. Bangladesh leaders think they made real headway during those earlier discussions about trade rules. Officials from both countries want to wrap up this agreement as fast as possible. The team hopes to seal the deal without dragging things out for months. Success could mean better business opportunities for companies in both nations.
