Barcelona Settles Final Deferred Salaries from 2020 Season

Barcelona completed payments for delayed salaries from 2020 after sending the final 16 million euros to players and coaches. The Spanish club settled all outstanding money owed from that difficult season. Team management under Joan Laporta made the last transfer to finish this financial obligation. These salary delays started during Josep Maria Bartomeu's leadership when the club faced serious money problems. The COVID-19 pandemic made Barcelona's financial situation much worse at that time.

Club officials asked many players to wait for part of their pay to help reduce costs. Lionel Messi received the largest amount from these delayed payments at 47.6 million euros total. Other stars like Samuel Umtiti and Sergio Busquets also got money from this final settlement. Antoine Griezmann and Jordi Alba were among the players who waited for their full compensation. Former coach Ronald Koeman received his delayed payments as well.

Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele collected their remaining salary money from the 2020 season. Miralem Pjanic was another player who received delayed compensation from that period. Barcelona has closed this chapter of financial problems from the previous leadership. The club moves forward with better financial health after clearing these old debts. This payment represents an important step toward long-term stability for the Catalan team.
