Beitbridge Municipality plans to honor Vice-President Kembo Mohadi by transforming a central parking area into a dedicated square bearing his name. The new Mohadi Square will occupy prime real estate between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and Emmerson Mnangagwa Road near the old police station. Council officials want the 30-meter-wide space to stretch roughly 80 meters toward the Rural District Council offices and the railway pension building. Town clerk Loud Ramakgapola already approached Mohadi about the tribute plans for the longtime local political heavyweight. The municipality believes the square will cement Mohadi's place in Beitbridge history for future generations.
Officials are considering adding a statue of the Vice President somewhere within the square to make his presence even more visible. Businessman Beji Muleya criticized the haphazard town development that prevents the placement of monuments in truly central locations. Former mayor Munyaradzi Chitsunge suggested positioning any statue at the busy traffic circle where Harare and Bulawayo roads meet. The 74-year-old Mohadi was born at Mtetengwa village, about 25 kilometers west of the border town. His remarkable political career includes never losing a single election in Beitbridge since he first won the parliamentary seat in 1985.
