BNP takes ex-election chiefs to court

BNP submitted serious charges against former election officials today. The party accused past commissioners of running three bad elections. They asked the Election Commission to take legal steps against these officials. BNP plans to file a police case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar station. The party wants justice for what they call fake voting processes.

Salah Uddin Khan led five BNP members to deliver the complaint. They met Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasiruddin at his office. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir signed the letter. The group handed over details about 19 people they want investigated. Khan said past officials ignored their complaints about election problems.

The 2014 election saw Awami League win 153 seats without competition. BNP refused to participate and called it a parliament without votes. Quazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed ran the commission during that time. Four other commissioners helped oversee the disputed process. The opposition party rejected the results completely.

The 2018 election brought more controversy when Awami League won 288 out of 300 seats. People reported ballot stuffing and voter threats during the process. BNP participated through Jatiya Oikya Front but won only seven seats. KM Nurul Huda served as the chief commissioner for this election. Critics called it an election that happened at night.

The 2024 polls faced a boycott from BNP and their allies. Awami League shared some seats with Jatia Party to make it look fair. The main competition came from rebels within the ruling party itself. People nicknamed it the dummy election because of fake candidates. Quazi Habibul Awal led the commission during this disputed vote.
