BNP wants fifth amendment back for equal rights

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed spoke about changing the country's basic laws back to older rules. He wants Bangladesh to return to something called the Fifth Amendment for important constitutional ideas. Ahmed said his party agrees with going back to these earlier principles. The politician believes these changes would protect equal rights and human dignity for all citizens. He also thinks democracy and social justice would become stronger under these rules.

Ahmed made these comments during a news meeting after political talks finished their fifth day. The National Consensus Commission held discussions at the Foreign Service Academy about constitutional matters. Professor Ali Riaz led the meeting as the commission's second-highest official. Several important members attended the talks about changing fundamental laws. Other participants came from different government and legal backgrounds.

Thirty-two political parties joined the constitutional discussions on this particular day. BNP took part along with the Communist Party of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. The National Citizens Party and Gano Odhikar Parishad also sent representatives to the talks. Biplobi Workers Party and Amar Bangladesh Party rounded out the major groups present. These parties continue working together on creating new constitutional frameworks for the nation.
