Bob Ross paintings fetch over $600,000 at LA auction

Three landscape paintings by Bob Ross generated more than $600,000 at a Los Angeles auction, with proceeds earmarked to support American public broadcasters facing severe federal budget reductions. Bonhams auction house facilitated the sale and plans to offer 27 additional canvases throughout the coming year in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles, with funds directed to television stations nationwide after the Trump administration eliminated $1.1 billion in public media financing.

The works featured characteristic elements from the late artist and television personality, who passed away in 1995 at age 52 after hosting The Joy Of Painting on PBS. Winter's Peace brought $318,000, while Home in the Valley fetched $229,100 and Cliffside sold for $114,800. Joan Kowalski of Bob Ross Inc. donated the collection of 30 paintings to American Public Television, a program distributor, after observing strong private sales results earlier in the year. Most pieces had only appeared during their original broadcast creation.
