BSF Shoots and Kills Bangladeshi Youth Along Naogaon-Porsha Border

Indian border guards gunned down another Bangladeshi man during Thursday morning hours near the frontier line. Ibrahim worked as a cattle herder and lived with his family around Sapahar Upazila area. The 40-year-old father crossed into India on Wednesday night with several friends looking for work. Border Security Force soldiers opened fire when the group tried to return home early Thursday. His companions managed to escape but Ibrahim died instantly from gunshot wounds.

Bangladesh border officials confronted their Indian counterparts about the deadly shooting incident. Indian forces claimed Ibrahim was grazing cattle near border marker 226 when they fired at him. BSF commanders refused to admit their troops killed the unarmed Bangladeshi citizen. Subedar Mahfuz Alam from BGB Nitpur camp confirmed the fatal shooting happened around 9:30 that morning. Indian border guards have rejected all attempts at diplomatic discussions about the killing.

Another Bangladeshi man died from Indian bullets just one day earlier near Chuadanga district. That victim was cutting grass for his animals when BSF forces shot him dead. Bangladesh requested emergency talks about both killings but India ignored the diplomatic requests. Cross-border violence has increased dramatically since Sheikh Hasina lost power last summer. Indian security forces have built new fences and attacked more Bangladeshi civilians along the shared boundary.
