BTO fires up Winnipeg memories in new jam

Bachman-Turner Overdrive just came back after many quiet years. The band released their first song since 1996, "60 Years Ago." This marks the first time Randy Bachman joined them on a track since 1984. The classic rock group started playing shows again when Randy brought back BTO in 2023.

The new song celebrates their hometown of Winnipeg. Randy asked his family to help create this music. His son Tal Bachman plays guitar on the track. Tal's wife, KoKo Bachman, handles the drums. Fred Turner, the other big name in the band title, sings the main vocals. Famous musician Neil Young, who also grew up in Winnipeg, adds a guitar solo.

The lyrics talk about making music during cold Canadian winters. The chorus mentions how they stayed inside to play rock and roll because of all the snow outside. Randy wrote this as a thank you to the city that shaped their early career. He described Winnipeg as the Liverpool of North America because it had such a rich music scene during the 1960s.

Randy told Billboard magazine that fans always ask him about releasing fresh material. He wanted to honor the place where BTO began their journey. The song brings together multiple generations of musicians connected to Winnipeg. Randy hopes everyone enjoys listening to 60 Years Ago as much as they enjoyed making it together.
