Buganda officials joined government representatives Wednesday to formalize community development agreements. The kingdom partnered with East African Crude Oil Pipeline developers and energy officials at Bulange headquarters. Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga welcomed Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa and EACOP Managing Director Guillaume Dulout for the ceremony. This collaboration establishes support for Masaka's forest conservation initiative and stadium construction project.
Minister Nankabirwa emphasized that petroleum sector investments extend beyond traditional infrastructure development. Uganda discovered oil reserves in 2006 and targets initial production by 2025 through multiple extraction projects. The five billion dollar pipeline will transport crude from Albertine Graben to Tanzania's Tanga port facility. Despite facing environmental criticism, officials maintain that community partnerships will generate lasting economic benefits.
