Buhari feared bugs in his office, wrote notes like a spy

Fatima Buhari claims her late father, former President Muhammadu Buhari, was paranoid about surveillance in his Presidential Villa office. She made the statement in a new biography of him written by Dr. Charles Omole. This fear dictated their strange communications.

He reportedly suspected covert listening devices were installed. That belief forced them into silent, note-passing conversations during her visits. On one occasion, he used a gesture mimicking a toothache to signal for quiet.

The biography treats this behavior as a practical response, not an overreaction. It points to a working environment filled with mistrust where even private talks seemed impossible. The former president allegedly remained constantly vigilant, warning his daughter to do the same.
