Bungie's Marathon Extraction Shooter Is Back in Action

Bungie revealed Marathon today, its first new game in over a decade. This extraction shooter reboots the studio's original title from years ago. Fans saw actual gameplay during a live stream featuring the development team, including game director Joe Zeigler.

Marathon launches September 23, 2025, on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Players can join the official Discord server to access a closed alpha test later this month. A 20-minute video showing content creators playing the game offers the clearest look at gameplay mechanics.

Players will choose between four characters called Runners: Void, Glitch, Blackbird, and Locus. Each Runner has unique abilities for different playstyles, but weapons remain available across all characters. The game focuses entirely on multiplayer with no single-player mode.

The story unfolds through seasonal updates after release. Players can compete alone without finding teammates if they prefer. Despite Bungie's shooting expertise and distinctive art direction, Marathon enters an already crowded shooter market. The price remains unannounced as players wait to experience the game themselves.
