Ugandan marathon party takes over Boston

The Heartbreak Hill Running Company in Boston turned into a celebration of Ugandan running culture last Saturday. Over 200 people came together for music, food, stories, and community connection before Victor Kiplangat made his Boston Marathon debut. The event featured traditional dancers, East African food, and talks with Kiplangat and coach Patrick Cheptoek from mountainous Kapchorwa, Uganda. They shared their journeys and passion for running with the packed audience.

The gathering served as a sports connection between Boston and Uganda. Two lucky attendees won trips to Uganda with airfare, hotel stays, entry into the 2025 Rwenzori Marathon, and gorilla trekking experiences. More winners will be announced after Marathon Monday. The event was part of Heartbreak Hill's Most Devoted series, which highlights stories of determination in running.

Local leaders from the Ugandan Diaspora Network and Uganda Boston Community Association helped spread the message. Event organizer Ryan Lee said it celebrated legacy and shared stories across continents. As Kiplangat runs on Monday, April 21, supporters will cheer him on from a special zone at the Newton store on Heartbreak Hill.
