Gulu City dropped its second annual marathon with Equity Bank backing the event again after registration numbers blew past targets for another year running. Robert Wanok from the bank said supporting health activities and cultural stuff in Northern Uganda fits what they care about, and organizer Francis Gimara mentioned they already topped last year when 600 people showed up instead of the planned 500. Cash prizes reach 3 million Ugandan shillings for winners in the 42-kilometer race, while shorter distances hand out smaller amounts, down to 250,000 for third-place wheelchair competitors.
