Bupa Global sets up shop in Kenya as health market booms

Bupa Global just started working in Nairobi after getting approval from Kenya's Insurance Regulatory Authority. This marks their first office anywhere in Africa. The UK health insurance company wants to be part of Kenya's growing market, which should jump from about 183 billion shillings in 2022 to around 357 billion shillings this year.

They picked Uditha Jayaratne as CEO and Principal Officer to lead operations in Kenya. Anthony Cabrelli, who runs Bupa Global worldwide, said they expanded because sub-Saharan Africa shows strong growth potential. Experts predict the international private medical insurance market there will increase 14-15% yearly through 2025.

Cabrelli believes Kenya plays a key role as their entry point into Africa. Their local office, plus new digital tools, will help people across the region access better healthcare. He mentioned how Kenya's Vision 2030 plan creates perfect conditions for their services because it focuses on making quality healthcare available to everyone.

The recent Social Health Insurance Act requires all Kenyan citizens to have health coverage, showing an increased need for complete healthcare options. Their Nairobi location will use new digital systems to offer various international health plans designed for small businesses, individuals, foreigners, and large companies.

Customers can directly reach top medical specialists through Bupa's worldwide network of healthcare providers. As everything moves to the local office, people already using their services in Kenya won't experience any interruptions.
