Mottley says build Africa ties to beat trade war blues

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley just dropped a serious reality check for Caribbean nations. She's telling her island neighbors they need to step up and protect themselves from global economic chaos. With trade wars heating up between the United States and China, Mottley sees trouble brewing.

The Caricom chair isn't mincing words. She warns that Caribbean countries can't keep putting all their eggs in one basket. Trump's trade battles and China's aggressive economic moves are creating massive market disruptions. Mottley believes island nations must diversify their global connections to survive.

She painted a stark picture of current global challenges. Climate change keeps getting worse. The COVID-19 pandemic totally wrecked global supply chains. Living costs are skyrocketing. Mottley argues these are the most challenging times since World War II. Small nations need to stick together and get creative about economic survival.

Mottley's big plan is to strengthen ties with Africa, Central America, and the Caribbean. She wants Caribbean countries to renew old partnerships with the United Kingdom, Europe, and Canada. Lowering tariffs won't save them; they need broader, more stable global market access to protect their economies.

Her message is clear. The world is facing serious challenges. Caribbean nations can't sit back and hope for the best. They need to be proactive, build new economic relationships, and support each other through these tough times.
