Bureaucrats get Sh1.7b office with restaurants

President William Ruto broke ground on Africa's newest climate fighting headquarters worth 1.7 billion shillings. The massive three-story building will rise at Kenya School of Government and serve as the second Global Centre on Adaptation office worldwide. Construction crews have two years to finish the project that international donors are paying for completely. The facility will pack in research labs, eating spots, and government offices under one roof. Ruto called the timing perfect for Kenya's climate battle plans.

The new center aims to become Africa's main hub for weather adaptation training and policy work. Researchers, government workers, and climate experts will team up inside the building to create real solutions for extreme weather problems. Former UN chief Ban Ki-Moon and ex-Senegal president Macky Sall attended the ceremony alongside other global leaders. The building will also house Mazingira House where Environment Ministry staff will work. Ruto pushed government departments to use the center for better climate planning.

Africa faces major risks without strong climate adaptation programs according to Ruto's earlier statements. He warned that security threats, forced migration, and economic problems could spread beyond the continent. The Global Centre decided to build in Nairobi after meeting with Ruto last April. The president wants private companies and development partners to work with the new facility. He believes the center will help train government workers at all levels to handle climate emergencies better.
