Cabinet rallies the nation behind the Proteas Women

The South African Cabinet urged the country to back the Proteas Women ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final against host India on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025. The team reached its first 50-over World Cup final with a commanding semifinal win over England in Guwahati. Laura Wolvaardt scored 169 off 143 balls with 24 fours to set up 319 for seven, and Marizanne Kapp took five for 20 as England were bowled out for 194. South Africa became the first African side to reach an ICC Women’s ODI World Cup final.

The title match is set for Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai at 9:30 a.m. South African time. India advanced after topping its group and beating Australia in the semifinal. South Africa’s run capped a strong year for the sport at home, with key performances across formats and a growing fan base. The Cabinet framed the final as a chance to inspire new players and asked supporters to rally as the Proteas try to lift the trophy for the first time.
