Catholic Bishops Warn of Early Political Realignments

Catholic bishops from Kenya have asked politicians to stop forming new groups ahead of the 2027 elections.

The head of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops said these early political moves distract attention from things that help the country grow. When politicians hold rallies years before elections, they create excitement that hides real issues and raises tensions.

He explained that when elected leaders focus on the next election instead of their current jobs, it hurts how democracy should work. The government needs to concentrate on running the country until the official campaign time starts.

The bishops did praise some recent steps, like setting up a panel to choose members for the election commission. These actions help people trust government groups more.

The bishops want several improvements right away: updating the list of voters, holding special elections for empty seats, and signing up new voters, especially young people. This will ensure everyone can have their say.

They asked the government to give enough money and freedom to groups like the Election Commission and the Human Rights Commission. These changes matter for creating a fair system in which people can truly participate.

The bishop pointed out that using tribal differences has split Kenyans and caused problems for many years. Past fighting happened because politicians used these differences. The bishops want Kenyans to learn from those bad times.

Every person in Kenya deserves respect no matter what tribe they come from or which party they support. The bishops hope for a future where all citizens stand together and respect each other instead of being divided.
