CCC slams Speaker and Senate head over recall double standards

The Welshman Ncube-directed Citizens Coalition for Change has called out parliament leadership regarding inconsistent practices after they signaled reluctance to process any forthcoming dismissal requests against self-proclaimed party interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu until legal proceedings conclude. Tshabangu remains deeply unpopular among opposition supporters following numerous unilateral expulsions he enacted since October 2023. He recently submitted court papers blocking potential removal from his senate position following disciplinary action that terminated his party membership.

His recent ejection from the organization theoretically cleared pathways for CCC officials to initiate his parliamentary removal. Anticipating this maneuver, Tshabangu approached judicial authorities requesting protection, arguing that improper committee structures invalidated his party expulsion. He named multiple entities as defendants, including the CCC organization, its disciplinary committee, plus both legislative chamber heads.

Parliamentary legal representatives surprisingly announced during recent case management discussions before Judge Dube they would refrain from challenging Tshabangu's application despite being named respondents. CCC media representative Willias Madzimure highlighted apparent hypocrisy since these same Zanu PF-affiliated legislative leaders previously processed Tshabangu's numerous recall requests against other members despite ongoing legal challenges from affected representatives.

Madzimure emphasized unprecedented developments in which legislative leadership suddenly adopted neutral positions regarding recall disputes. He noted a sharp contrast with previous instances where these same officials actively opposed applications filed by party members against Tshabangu. The controversial opposition figure must wait until March 17 when courts deliver judgment regarding his challenge. Formal arguments between concerned parties have been scheduled before the Judge President on March 13, 2025.
