President Mnangagwa launched a new internet program for rural Zimbabwe at a children's event in Gokwe. The Presidential Internet Scheme aims to connect the entire country through fast broadband service.
The government plans to install 2,000 Starlink devices at schools, clinics, and police stations in remote areas. ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera explained that satellite technology was needed because traditional networks couldn't reach isolated communities. A recent study showed that many rural areas lacked proper internet access.
The president also started school business projects, including gardens, fish ponds, and solar-powered water systems. These efforts form part of a larger plan to boost rural economic growth. During the visit, Mnangagwa celebrated Zimbabwe's 45th independence anniversary by planting 45 trees with students.
