Chihweta goal does little to silence furious Bosso fans

Highlanders snapped their three-game losing streak with a narrow victory over GreenFuel at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday. The Bulawayo club grabbed all three points thanks to striker Mafious Chihweta's first-half effort. Try Ncube celebrated his third match as manager with maximum points from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash. The skillful forward pounced on a loose ball to fire home five minutes before halftime. Chihweta bagged his second goal wearing the black and white jersey.

Angry supporters staged protests outside the stadium demanding major changes at boardroom level. The fans want fresh leadership and proper management of club finances during the ongoing crisis. Despite the goal bringing some excitement, the opening period remained largely forgettable for spectators. Chihweta tested goalkeeper Ryners with a curling shot from the penalty area edge during the 27th minute. Mvelo Khoza delivered a dangerous cross moments later but the keeper punched clear.

GreenFuel created several decent opportunities during the second period but failed to find the back of the net. Substitute Ronald Chitiyo came closest to equalizing when his shot struck the crossbar after beating Reward Muza. The visiting team continued pressing forward with Denzel Mupuwa forcing another save from the home goalkeeper. Andrew Mbeba produced a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve the slender advantage. The final whistle confirmed Highlanders had ended their winless drought against determined opponents.
