The family of Custon Charambira asked the court to free musician Chillmaster because he promised to care for the dead man's children. Lucia Charambira told magistrate Tatenda Mukurunge that Chillmaster paid for the funeral costs. She said he had already given them half the money they wanted as payment for damages. The family believes he should go free because he plans to pay for the children's school fees. Chillmaster knows they need the support their father would have given.
His lawyers told the court he also offered monthly food for the children until they turn 18. The court rejected these pleas. Instead, it ordered Chillmaster to do 420 hours of community service at Stoneridge Primary School for killing Charambira. He must also pay a $200 fine because he drove without a license. Chillmaster admitted he was guilty of both charges.
The accident happened when Chillmaster drove with three passengers from Stoneridge toward town. He hit Charambira, who walked on the roadside coming from Stoneridge heading to MaSteps. Charambira died right away from broken legs and head injuries. His burial took place in Zaka.
