Chitukutuku loses R550m loot to the State

Zimbabwe's anti-corruption authority has seized approximately $30 million in property from Frank Chitukutuku, who previously led the Zimbabwe National Road Administration, after he could not explain how he accumulated such wealth. The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission confirmed in early November 2025 that the Supreme Court upheld most forfeiture orders against the former executive, marking a major recovery in one of the nation's longest-running graft cases.

Authorities initially froze Chitukutuku's holdings in May 2019 before the country's highest court affirmed the seizure in late November 2024. ZACC Chairman Michael Reza disclosed during a December 2024 anti-corruption review meeting that confiscated items consisted of residential properties, commercial trucks and corporate holdings valued around $20 million. Court records show Chitukutuku earned roughly $8,500 monthly at ZINARA yet amassed luxury SUVs, tractors, shares in Champions Insurance and a Goromonzi farm.

Prosecutors tied his fortune to corruption proceeds from road contract kickbacks despite his earlier criminal acquittal. Civil courts determined on balance of probabilities that most assets originated from illicit funds. Two Borrowdale and Glen Lorne properties returned to lower courts for additional review while remaining seizures stand as final judgments.
