Chitungwiza fixes sewers, valves, and plans a drug rehab center

An old sewer system is getting a major overhaul. Chitungwiza Municipality plans to keep fixing broken sewer lines in the new year, prioritizing over seven kilometers of pipes starting with the Upper Seke outfall, according to council spokesperson Tafadzwa Kachiko. The work follows progress on the Zengeza and PaGomba outfalls, where large piping has already been installed, with a budget of about five point seven million ZiG set aside. Officials also aim to improve the unreliable water supply by replacing up to ten main valves and installing six bulk meters to reduce losses, since the town lacks its own water source.

Other goals for the municipality include building a day care center for drug abuse issues at Utano and starting new clinic projects through public-private partnerships. Plans for solar-powered street lights and better public engagement through digital communication portals are also in the works. Kachiko noted recent accomplishments like buying an excavator and tow trucks, patching potholes, and paving some intersections. The council hopes these combined efforts will address long-standing infrastructure problems for residents.
