Church leaders from Mashonaland East joined forces to fight malaria. More than 80 religious leaders met in Mutoko to create an action plan. They want to help the government stop this disease from spreading. Faith Leaders Advocacy for Malaria Elimination worked with the Ministry of Health to organize the meeting. Leaders came from areas where malaria is prevalent, such as Mudzi, Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe, Mutoko, and Murehwa.
Reverend Father Kampala from Zambia told the group they must do more than preach. He said church members look to them for help with health problems. Religious leaders pledged to convey the malaria message to their communities. Sheik Ishmael Duwa said saving lives is what God wants them to do. The health ministry praised churches for their efforts in helping to reach people in remote areas.
The leaders agreed to start awareness campaigns in their districts. They will ask for resources and share malaria information during worship services. Zimbabwe aims to reduce malaria deaths by 2026 and eliminate the disease by 2030.
