Church Sects Battle to Stop Baba Johanne Exhumation

Two groups from the Gospel of God Church International fight against plans to move their late leader from his grave. They oppose the High Court decision letting Baba Johanne's sons, Magaga and Reuben Masedza, take their father's remains from the Gandanzara Shrine. Sister Era Silver Tapera's church branch asked the Supreme Court to stop this plan for the religious figure who died in 1973.

The church claims it legally owns the shrine through an earlier court ruling. They say Baba Johanne wanted to stay buried there with his followers. Justice Tawanda Chitapi ruled that the sons can move forward if they follow proper steps. Magaga Masedza published a notice about his plan to rebury his father at their family home.

Francis Nedewedzo from Sister Tapera's group called the plan disrespectful. He said many church elders rest at Gandanzara following Baba Johanne's wishes. Joromiah Mususu from Sister Dazi Dhliwayo's breakaway group also objects, asking the government to step in. Church members claim Magaga tried to take his father's remains in 1996.
