Coppola's Megalopolis tour ends with cardiology stay in Rome

Italian medical staff admitted renowned director Francis Ford Coppola to a Rome hospital on Tuesday morning. The 86-year-old filmmaker received treatment at the cardiology department of Policlinico di Tor Vergata. Medical sources indicated that atrial fibrillation may have prompted his hospitalization. Coppola had been conducting promotional activities for his recent film Megalopolis throughout Italy. The movie received its debut screening at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

The director earned five Academy Awards during his distinguished career spanning several decades. His Godfather series revolutionized cinema and established new standards for the crime drama genre. Apocalypse Now achieved critical acclaim as a masterpiece of war filmmaking. The Conversation secured the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1974. Coppola also produced significant works and mentored emerging filmmakers such as George Lucas.

Hospital officials have not released additional information regarding the filmmaker's current medical status. His business interests extend beyond filmmaking into wine production and hospitality ventures.
