A Zimbabwe High Court invalidated Sengezo Tshabangu's expulsion from the Citizens Coalition for Change in a default judgment. Judge President Mary Zimba-Dube rejected party president Welshman Ncube's affidavit because he failed to show proper authorization to represent the party. The court ruled that Tshabangu's challenge went unopposed as a result.
The judge also determined that CCC officials elected at the May 2019 Gweru congress were serving unlawfully since their terms expired on May 27, 2024. Ncube told reporters they accidentally submitted the wrong party resolution document. Zimba-Dube's order protects Tshabangu and CCC lawmakers but considers Ncube and other officials impostors after their term expires.
The court criticized CCC's legal representatives for simply copying previous legal responses rather than addressing the current case specifics. Ncube provided an outdated three-year-old party resolution from January 2022 that discussed election participation but never mentioned litigation authority. The judge declared the entire February disciplinary process against Tshabangu null because committee members lacked legitimate authority when they met in Harare.
