Croatia picks Alexandria as World Cup base camp

Croatia's squad picked their stateside home for the upcoming global tournament. The team selected Alexandria, Virginia, as their base camp, securing a specific hotel and the athletic grounds at a local high school for training. Officials cited the location's balance of quality facilities, travel logistics, and privacy. The hotel features modern design by a noted Italian architect and sits near a major airport.

Team manager Iva Olivari stated the federation evaluated over sixty potential sites before personally inspecting several options. Technical director Stipe Pletikosa called the high school facilities outstanding, highlighting the pitch, gym, and recovery suites with advanced therapy equipment. Coach Zlatko Dalić agreed that the location topped their list after considering every professional and logistical factor.

Federation president Marijan Kustić emphasized providing optimal conditions for players and staff amid the significant challenge of a continental tournament. The choice positions the team close to transport links for their scheduled matches. This selection follows a previous camp setup in Russia and another in Qatar, with hopes for similar successful results.
