Dame Susan Dougan steps down as GG

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will lose its historic female boss very soon. Dame Susan Dougan intends to leave the Governor General post after spending years handling constitutional tasks as the representative for the British monarch. She originally replaced Sir Frederick Ballantyne to serve as the first woman in that specific role.

This career educator climbed the ladder from a standard teaching gig to headmistress at St. Vincent Girls High School before running the entire education ministry. She later worked as Cabinet Secretary and served as a diplomat to the Organization of American States.

Dougan snagged degrees from universities in London and Southampton while collecting fancy awards like the Dame Grand Cross. Her exit concludes a long run that saw her transition from deputy status to the top job.
