Dar restores services as crackdown targets profiteers

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila announced that critical services have resumed operations across the region under presidential directive. President Samia Suluhu Hassan ordered all regions to restore activities suspended due to security concerns following election-related disturbances. The commissioner confirmed that ferry routes to Kigamboni, intercity buses, commuter minibuses known as daladala, three-wheeled bajaji vehicles and motorcycle taxis can operate again. Food transport trucks have returned to the streets while fuel sales at stations continue, though retail outlets cannot sell petroleum products.

Chalamila warned against price manipulation and promised swift government action against violators. He addressed reporters after security forces worked to restore order following youth unrest during the voting period. The Dar Rapid Transport system serving the Kimara and Mbagala routes remains temporarily offline while authorities assess infrastructure damage from criminal activity and plan repairs. The land transport management authority received instructions to grant temporary operating permits allowing daladala operators to move passengers between Mbezi, Kimara and downtown areas. Chalamila prohibited all local transport from using expressways and scheduled meetings between energy regulators and petroleum industry representatives.
