Data Centers Go Nuts for 80 Plus Ruby PSUs

CLEAResult introduced a new power supply rating, 80 PLUS Ruby, specifically designed for data centers. This certification surpasses all previous efficiency standards, achieving a 96.5 percent power savings during normal use. Data centers require improved energy efficiency as global electricity demand continues to grow. The Ruby standard helps companies save money and reduce environmental impact. Power supply manufacturers can apply for this certification to demonstrate that their products meet stringent requirements.

Previous 80 PLUS Titanium models delivered 96 percent efficiency at half power loads. Ruby-certified units perform better across various power levels, from 5 percent to full capacity. These advanced power supplies maintain 90 percent efficiency even when computers use very little electricity. Data centers benefit most from these improvements because servers often run at low power for long periods. The extra efficiency saves thousands of dollars annually for large computing facilities.

Delta Electronics released the first Ruby-certified power supply rated at 5500 watts for artificial intelligence servers. Their unit achieves an efficiency of 97.5 percent during typical operations. Regular computer users are unlikely to see Ruby power supplies in stores anytime soon. These specialized units are significantly more expensive than standard consumer models. Manufacturers focus on business customers who need maximum energy savings.
