David Kostelecky, 50, excited to join Shooting League of India despite age

David Kostelecky represents one of the oldest competitors expressing interest in the Shooting League of India at age 50. The Czech athlete earned Olympic gold in Beijing 2008 and silver in Tokyo 2020 during his trap shooting career. He began competitive shooting at 14 and has maintained his skills across 36 years of competition. Team-based competition attracts him more than individual events because he values collaborative victories over personal achievements. The league format offers him opportunities to compete alongside teammates rather than representing his country alone.

Physical fitness modifications have helped Kostelecky maintain competitive performance despite advancing age. He draws inspiration from Giovanni Pellielo, who captured gold at the 2025 ISSF Trap World Cup in Lonato at 55 years old. Vision problems nearly ended his career in 2016 until an optometrist provided specialized assistance for sports-related eyesight challenges. Contact lenses and targeted vision training allowed him to continue competing for nine additional years. The Czech shooter anticipates forming genuine friendships with international competitors through team participation.
