Car dealers say the late Wicknell Chivayo still owes them for cars people already picked up, and social media can't stop talking about it. A few dealers are reportedly trying to work out how to get that money back, while others say business has dropped off.
Lots of Zimbabweans are side-eyeing the story. Why would any dealer let a car leave the lot if nobody had settled the bill yet?
Gigi Chiwandire asked how that's even possible when Chivayo threw in extra cash with the cars. Tafadzwa Konderai went further, calling the whole thing a lie and a scheme to snatch rides back from people.
Blessing Kufakunesu, Mavis Nyengera, and Simbarashe Mubaiwa all brought up Chivayo's old line that every car was paid off in full and good to pick up. Mubaiwa even recalled him telling winners to go see Victor, and he warned dealers to drop the greed because people know what they're up to.
Noel Sawadye thinks there could be two sides here. He wondered why recipients accepted cars billed as paid off without getting a copy of the sale agreement, but he also floated the idea that dealers might be using Chivayo's death to lie and grab the vehicles back.
Sima Mpofu had a blunter fix. Either the dealers repossess the cars or the estate sells off property to clear the debts.
And Mildred Mudzingwa says these days she believes anything is possible and doesn't trust appearances. She thinks the dealers really could take the cars back from the people who got them.
