Delhi court dropkicks AI deepfakes on Nagarjuna

The Delhi High Court granted Telugu actor Nagarjuna protection against unauthorized commercial exploitation of his identity. The ruling prohibits websites from using his name, voice, image or likeness through artificial intelligence, deepfakes or face morphing technologies without permission. Named defendants must remove specified content within 72 hours while the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology received orders to block violations.

The court determined that misusing personality rights damages both financial interests and personal dignity. Nagarjuna's widespread popularity means unauthorized use of his persona creates consumer confusion across large audiences. The judgment reflects increasing efforts by Indian public figures to obtain legal safeguards against AI-powered identity theft in digital spaces.
