Dhaka Chamber boss nags taxpayers over e-return blues

Taskeen Ahmed encouraged taxpayers to use electronic filing systems during a Saturday workshop hosted by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The DCCI president emphasized that citizens bear moral responsibility for contributing taxes since government revenue supports infrastructure development and public services. He highlighted Bangladesh's lower tax collection rates compared with regional neighbors and called for improved compliance. Ahmed promoted the e-return platform as a tool for enhanced transparency in revenue administration.

The workshop attracted more than 70 participants from member companies who received training on tax procedures and electronic submission methods. Lutful Hadee from chartered accountancy firm Hadee Lutful & Co conducted three educational sessions covering income tax, value-added tax and digital filing processes. DCCI Senior Vice President Razeev H Chowdhury and Vice President Salem Sulaiman attended the event. Participants gained practical knowledge to streamline their business tax obligations through the government's digital platform.
