Dhaka touts BIMSTEC climate push, warns Bay of Bengal faces megastorms

Seven Bay of Bengal countries just made a major move to fight natural disasters together. BIMSTEC leaders met at their headquarters and released a game-changing report about helping each other during emergencies. The group wants all member nations to work as one team when floods, storms and other climate disasters strike the region. Bangladesh currently leads the organization and pushed hard for better cooperation between all the countries. Officials from across South Asia gathered to discuss how they can save more lives during future catastrophes.

The new report tells BIMSTEC exactly what steps to take next for better disaster response. Leaders want to build a central database that tracks all climate emergencies across the region. They also plan to create a unified command center that can coordinate rescue efforts between different nations. The group aims to share equipment and supplies before disasters happen rather than scrambling afterward. Communication systems between all seven countries need major upgrades to work during crisis situations.

BIMSTEC brings together Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand under one umbrella. The organization focuses on seven main areas like trade, security, agriculture and environmental protection. Climate experts have already set up a weather forecasting center that serves all member countries. Three major disaster training exercises have tested how well the nations can work together during emergencies. India has offered to host a permanent disaster management center for the entire region.
