Do you still see the influence of contemporary African marriage traditions and customs putting pressure towards the idea of women getting more respect if married in African societies?

Marriage in African traditional society has always been the reason why some women hate the African culture's ways of thinking because, a woman who ain't married yet, is often seen as someone who is scandalous and troublesome since the conclusion will be she can't keep a man. So yeah.

There is now a growing trend of African women marrying themselves. Perhaps they do it as a means to avoid being shunned by friends and relatives.

That's because feminism has been slowly finding its way into African culture. So some women may view the idea of paying their own lobola as empowerment rather than completely following African customs in regard to marriage.

Well, if feminism is about freedom of choices and empowering women.

Why can't at the same time feminists respect the choices of traditional African women and Christian women who may decide to take upon the role of being a submissive partner in the relationship.
